Everything you will experience

This route brings together five Central Valleys landmarks in one day, combining nature, archaeology, Zapotec craftsmanship and Oaxaca’s mezcal tradition.

Choose the complete 8:00 AM departure or the 12:00 PM half-day departure. The 12:00 PM option does not include the Mitla archaeological site. Both include pickup from centrally located Oaxaca hotels and return to the city’s Zócalo.

A day to remember

Tree of Tule

See the ancient Montezuma cypress famous for its exceptionally wide trunk and learn why it is a symbol of Santa María del Tule.

Teotitlán del Valle

Visit a family wool-rug workshop for a demonstration of loom weaving and natural dyes, followed by time in its gallery.

Mitla archaeological site

Take a guided walk through this Zapotec ceremonial center, noted for its intricate stone mosaics. This stop is included only with the 8:00 AM departure.

Lunch stop

Stop at a regional buffet restaurant. Food and drinks are paid directly at the venue.

Hierve el Agua

Spend about 90 minutes at the petrified waterfalls, viewpoints and natural pools.

Mezcal palenque

Learn how artisanal mezcal is produced and finish the visit with an included tasting.

Important notes

  • The 12:00 PM half-day departure does not visit the Mitla archaeological site.
  • On Sundays, Mexican citizens usually receive free admission to Mitla with official ID.
  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, water, sunscreen and insect repellent if you plan to enter the pools.
